TVB’s 48th Anniversary Gala was met with some interesting red carpet pieces this time around. While there were certainly still those usual princess gowns and bridal dresses floating around that evening, a few supporting actresses who stepped up to leading ladies in the last two years is demonstrating that they can, in fact, hold down the audience – with their fashion choices that is!
Here are some of the highlights from our favorite women that night.
Best Dressed – Nancy Wu (胡定欣)
Right before the special evening, Nancy Wu posted a photo of what she wore that evening to Instagram. This dress by YolanCris of Barcelona shows that a dress doesn’t need an extravagant style to take over the red carpet. The sheer lace top and watercolor bottom is simply a mesmerizing, unique combo that brought out her femininity! No excessive accessories were required though her jewelry was sponsored by Luk Fok that evening. To top off her look, her hairstylist pulled her long hair back in a bun. Her loosely flowing bangs gave the look a more casual touch, which matched the dress very much.
When Sexy Meets Dreamy – Selena Li (李詩韻)
Been under the radar for many months now — let’s make that many years — I was so happy to see Selena Li sparkling that night (even though her acting career didn’t turn out that way). She brightened the evening with a nude chiffon sparkling gown. If you think the sexiness is to her legs, think again. (See more photos of her dress below for the revealing back of her dress!) Although the dress favored taller women, Selena looked fine by upgrading her height in nude platforms. At a glance, her dress reminded me of the classic Chinese qi paos with a modern, sexy twist. Like always, Selena wore her wavy hair to her right.
Valentine’s Day? – Tracy Chu (朱千雪)
In my book, Tracy Chu’s popularity (or maybe “likability” is the right word) skyrocketed after her performance in The Fixer. While Tracy’s princess gown piece carries its typical low-cut, cleavage-revealing, the most eye-catching part are the red, stitched floral vines. Her red lip matched the florals and she opted her for the same side part wavy hair as Selena. I’m ambivalent in her choice, what do you think?
Wish her the best of luck for the Most Improved Female Artist award this month. She will need it because her competition is up next!
The Black Queen – Grace Chan ( 陳凱琳)
TVB has been trying to put Grace Chan in the front of everything in the past year. Serving as the youngest MC host that evening, Grace was happily drowning in her black open-back sparkly gown. The dress is classic, yet interesting. Even with her youthful looks, I can’t help but notice how the dress makes her look older than she is. Her wavy hair also seemed too casual for her dress and red lip, but it seemed like she has a thing for her necklace headpieces. Too bad, it wasn’t a good match for this dress.
I definitely feel more at ease when Grace sports pastels or brighter colors.
Lady in Red – Mandy Wong (黃智雯)
Mandy Wong’s one-shoulder red dress can easily be mistaken for the Lunar New Year in Hong Kong (Haha!). Yet I love the double sexiness of the one-shoulder and leg opening. Her strappy five-inch heels screams classy and sexy at the same time. As opposed to the other girls, she looks as mature and cool as ever in her short hair (*flips hair even if it’s short).
