Monthly Favorites: January 2016

Today, I’m bringing you my monthly favorites and depending on how much I have to talk about, this might become a monthly feature or something I write every other month. This is an opportunity to get to know me a little more on a personal level since I’m always talking about another movie or another person’s fashion. LOL.

Skincare and Body

Fresh Rose Face Mask

Fresh-Rose-Face-Mask

I received this as a birthday gift from Sephora, which came along with their Soy Face Cleanser (mentioned below). It’s a descent sample size and definitely enough product for you to experiment with before making the decision on buying the full size. Luckily, for me, after just one use, I noticed a difference: my face is softer and can now breathe.

Like it’s name claims, it not only smells like rose, but also infused with rose petal extracts. I’m neutral about the rose scent, but I know some people go crazy for it. Also, it claims that it gives you more radiant skin, which I haven’t noticed yet, but not entirely an issue I need resolving for my skin anyway.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

This sample size cleanser was a life saver and so convenient while I was traveling this month. I usually use the Neutrogena Acne-Free Cleanser everyday, but since they don’t sell a travel size version of it, the squeeze tube is too bulky to lug around. Imagine it taking up half of the space in your toiletry bag. No thanks.

According to Sephora, this product is “a bestselling cleanser that instantly whisks away impurities and makeup—even mascara—and is the product with which Fresh pioneered the use of soy in the beauty industry.” I was attracted to the use of soy protein in this product as I’ve never used anything like it. Soy protein is said to help reduce blotchiness and discoloration by evening out the appearance of pigments within the skin’s surface as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Body Lotion

SheaMoisture_BodyLotion

I’m always guilty of not applying lotion after exiting the shower as it’s a long and tedious process. Who else feels this way? Thus, the only time I wear it is when I really need it — and that’s during the winter when my skin is so dry that application is inevitable. Because of this, my motivation to apply comes from the scent. This coconut scent one by Shea Moisture smells great and somehow makes me feel like I’m laying on an exotic island with coconuts. You can definitely smell yourself post-application!

I was also attracted to the brightening and toning aspect of the product as I’m very pale and I’ll take anything that makes my skin brighter and healthier. I’ve used about two weeks worth of product, but I don’t see noticeable differences. Also, for lotion it’s also more expensive than what I will usually pay for.

Hair

TRESemme Keratin Smooth Hair Serum

I got my first perm a few months ago and while I asked for waves, she gave me curls. That always happens and all I can do was laugh. She promised me that it will become waves after two weeks or so. She lied. However, to battle the volume and frizziness and have softer waves, I found that TRESemme’s Keratin Smooth Hair Serum works wonders! I bought it on a whim and it happens to be an award-winning product in Allure’s Best of Beauty in 2013.

The product is easy to use and has an oily texture that’s not greasy at all. It claims to contain frizz for up to 48 hours, but I feel like it does so for up to 72 hours.

Websites

Quora
Quora is responsible for countless of my sleepless nights on my iPad because there is so much first-hand knowledge and experience from various different professionals. Nowadays, when a question hits my mind, I hit the button and Quora-it. It’s been able to answer most of my questions in many topics (including digital marketing, traveling, SaaS, etc.) You can upvote if you love an answer, but for me, the originality, depth and quality of answers can’t be found anywhere else.

What’s so great about it?

  • Answers are written by industry professionals across a wide range of topics. You can tell how deep and intelligent someone is based on their answers.
  • You get your own newsfeed (just like with Facebook) and the questions and answers roll through your feed based on the topics you follow
  • You can be the one who asks the questions or the one who shares the knowledge. The latter helps you establish your own credibility online.

Places

Chihuly Garden and Glass

I’m not frequent visitor of museums, but Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle, Washington really lived up to the best one after 20-something years, especially right after waiting three months, but only to be disappointed in The Broad in Downtown, Los Angeles a while ago. The exhibits are amazing and almost everything is made from glass inside. It’s great for a romantic date, especially if you’re the quiet type. There’s enough visual stimulation to keep you through the entire afternoon not to mention every exhibit is Instagram-worthy! I didn’t check out the exhibits online beforehand and I don’t recommend that you do either — that way you’ll be blown away every time you enter a new room.

Unlike many museums, this one does require a fee though.
